Process Post: Abstract Painting

This project is very out of my comfort zone. As someone who has mainly created objective works from a reference or at the very least from memory, I have never really tried to paint non-objectively. During the paths to abstraction, I struggled with creating marks that looked visually appealing, so I came into this painting with optimistic yet realistic expectations.

Making the painting, my colors immediately got really muddy, which disappointed me, but the interactions between red, white and lightblue in some of the strokes was pretty beautiful. In the coming days, I forsee a lot of editing on this canvas that will probably cover 95% of what I did today, and that's okay. I also hope to find my original meaning once again and come back from the entire canvas being strokes and colors for no apparent reason.
