"TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE" 2019, Dan Lam

The contemporary artist I found for this post was the contemporary sculptor, Dan Lam. She creates colorful, drippy sculptures out of acrylic, foam, and resin. Inspired by nature and the human body, she tries to push the medium of polyurethane foam.

When I first saw her work, I was captivated by its smooth yet spiky texture and vibrant, smooth colors. Her being able to get such a smooth gradient is very impressive to me, and I love how organic the sculptures appear. They simultaneously adhere to and defy physics in a mind-bending way.

Her works evoke a sense of both beauty and disgust, playing with your perception and creating a unique experience. I found her work very interesting, and I wonder about how she was able to so perfectly recreate fluids in a solid form.
